Welcome
to the Water quality Page
The main focus of the Water Quality program is
to protect public health by identifying Kitsap County surface waters
impaired by bacterial contamination, prioritizing them for clean-up,
and conducting pollution identification and correction projects
to identify and correct sources of pollution (typically failing
on-site sewage systems and animal waste). We also conduct paralytic
shellfish poison (PSP) monitoring, lake swimming beach monitoring,
respond to sewage spills and water quality complaints, and ensure
the proper collection and disposal of sewage generated at Kitsap
County marinas.

General Advisory
Any time the public contacts surface waters in
Kitsap County (lakes, streams, and marine waters), there is a risk
of contracting a waterborne illness. Waterborne illness symptoms
typically include cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, fever, headache, and/or
eye, ear and skin infections. To prevent waterborne illness, the
public is advised to not drink any surface waters, and thoroughly
wash hands after contact with surface waters. If you believe that
you’ve contracted a waterborne illness, first see your doctor
then report the illness to the Health District’s Communicable
Disease Clinic (337-5235).
