PARALYTIC SHELLFISH POISONING
CLOSURE ADVISORIes
The following areas have been closed to recreational
shellfish harvesting due to Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning, known
as PSP or "Red Tide".
This health advisory was issued on
October 12, 2007 and
will remain in effect until further notice. Shellfish samples are
collected every two weeks throughout the year. This message will
be updated when conditions change.
- The eastern shoreline
of Kitsap County from Point no Point to Blake Island is closed
for BUTTER CLAMS only. This closure area includes all bays and
inlets south to the Sinclair Inlet Rich Passage Boundary at the
South end of Bainbridge Island and includes all of Bainbridge
Island.

Toxic shellfish do not look or taste any different.
The Paralytic Shellfish Poison is not destroyed by any method of
preparation or cooking.
The symptoms of Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning
usually occur within one hour after eating toxic shellfish. Symptoms
may include tingling and numbness of the lips and tongue, nausea,
vomiting, muscle weakness and difficulty in breathing. Contact your
doctor immediately if you experience any of these symptoms after
eating shellfish.
