| PARALYTIC SHELLFISH POISONING
CLOSURE ADVISORIES
The following areas have been closed to recreational
shellfish harvesting due to Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning, known
as PSP or "Red Tide".
This health advisory was issued on December 3, 2009 and will remain in effect until further
notice. Shellfish samples are collected every two weeks throughout
the year. This message will be updated when conditions change.
- The eastern most shoreline of Kitsap County from Point-no-Point south to Agate Passage and from Agate Passage east and south to South Beach Road on Bainbridge Island remains closed for butter clams only. This area includes Miller Bay, Port Madison Bay, and Blake Island including all inlets, bays, and Harbors

Toxic shellfish do not look or taste any different.
The Paralytic Shellfish Poison is not destroyed by any method of
preparation or cooking.
The symptoms of Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning
usually occur within one hour after eating toxic shellfish. Symptoms
may include tingling and numbness of the lips and tongue, nausea,
vomiting, muscle weakness and difficulty in breathing. Contact your
doctor immediately if you experience any of these symptoms after
eating shellfish.
