hazardous waste

General Information

A hazardous waste (also called dangerous waste) can be any waste with certain chemicals that are dangerous to human health or the environment. Both households and businesses generate hazardous wastes. The Health District is responsible for regulating the safe handling and disposal of hazardous waste from households and certain businesses Chapter 173-303 WAC, Dangerous Waste Regulations.

For more information on hazardous wastes generated by households and businesses, visit the Helpful Links section below. To view our HAZARDOUS WASTE GUIDE click here.

Alternatives

In many cases, you can choose alternatives to chemicals that end up as hazardous waste. Household alternatives are listed online and in a household hazardous waste brochure available from the Kitsap County Solid Waste Division. Businesses can get assistance from the Health District’s Business Pollution Prevention Program
