What do you do when your On-Site
Sewage System has failed?
The primary concern is protecting
public health. This includes your family, neighbors
and pets. The following are important steps to ensure
that this occurs and the procedures to a speedy repair.
Keep the area isolated if possible.
If there is a way of restricting access to the area
that may be failing do so immediately. If sewage
is leaving your property you may need to pump out
the septic tank and continue pumping until the system
is repaired.
Hire a licensed On-Site Sewage
Designer to design a repair system for your home.
Please note that the Washington State Department
Of Licensing now licenses all On-Site Sewage Designers.
Refer to the local phone book for companies and
verify that they are licensed. Once the designer
has finished the repair design for your home they
will submit it to the Health District. You will
be notified when approval has been granted for your
repair design.
Hire
a licensed On-Site Sewage Disposal Installer to
install your system. You may refer to theLicensed
Installers List.
When your
system has been installed and inspected by the Health
District the new system will be covered and you
will receive a copy of the approved permit after
all of the processing of the paperwork has been
completed.
