rapid hiv test - oraquick©
The rapid HIV test is a fingerstick test. The results are available
in about 30 minutes. Like the traditional HIV tests, it detects
antibodies to the virus, not the virus itself. Antibodies are the
body's reaction to the virus. Because it can take up to three months
for the antibodies to develop, test results tell whether or not
the person was infected three months ago. A person with risk behaviors
in the last three months will need to repeat the test three months
later.
The rapid test has a high level of accuracy. People with a negative
result will be provided with education and supplies to protect them
in the future. People with a reactive result will be given a confirmatory
test and a follow-up appointment to obtain confirmatory results.
People with reactive tests need to take precautions to avoid transmitting
the virus to others until they know for sure whether or not they
are infected.
The rapid test is done by appointment. Call (360) 337-5235
and ask for an appointment for a Rapid HIV Test.
