housing assistance(HOpwa)

Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA), is a federally funded program to provide resources to prevent homelessness for people with HIV/AIDS. It is a HUD program. Eligible individuals can access funds to assist in short term rent, mortgage payments, or utilities. Funds are limited, but available to any HIV+ individual who meets eligibility criteria. HOPWA can be accessed up to 5 times in one year and is limited to the program cap which maintains fairness. HOPWA is not accessed if a client is already on Section 8, another HUD program.
