Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS
(HOPWA), is a federally funded program to provide resources to
prevent homelessness for people with HIV/AIDS. It is a HUD program.
Eligible individuals can access funds to assist in short term
rent, mortgage payments, or utilities. Funds are limited, but
available to any HIV+ individual who meets eligibility criteria.
HOPWA can be accessed up to 5 times in one year and is limited
to the program cap which maintains fairness. HOPWA is not accessed
if a client is already on Section 8, another HUD program.
