The Washington Breast and Cervical Health Program (WBCHP) provides breast and cervical Health screening and diagnostic services to uninsured and underinsured women ages 40 to 64, who are low income or have no income. WBCHP is dedicated to eliminating health disparities among under-served populations.

Access to screening, diagnostic services and treatment is critical for all women regardless of income, education, race or ethnicity. WBCHP has saved lives of many women in our community by diagnosing cancer early when it is less costly and most treatable, and by assuring access to cancer care.

Eligible women:

  • Are age 40 – 64
  • Have no/limited income
  • Have no/limited insurance

                       Or

If you are a woman age 35-39 with no/limited income, no/limited insurance and with symptoms, BCHP can help with clinical breast exam and mammogram.

Information on the Washington Breast and Cervical Health Program (WBCHP)are available in English, Arabic, Cambodian, Chinese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese at no charge.

What you should know about…

Breast Health:

  • Learn what is normal for your breasts.
  • Learn how to check your breast every month
  • Ask your health care provider to do a breast exam
  • If you notice a change in how your breast look or feel, tell your health care provider right away.
  • Tell your health care provider if you have a family history of breast cancer.

Screening Guideline:
Age 40 - 49:

  • Mammogram every 1 to 2 year
  • Clinical breast exam every year
  • Breast self exam every month

Age 50 and above:

  • Mammogram every year
  • Clinical breast exam every year
  • Breast self exam every month

Cervical Health:

  • When it is found early and treated, cervical cancer is highly curable.
  • Pap test can find abnormal cells before they become cancerous.
  • Cervical cancer is caused by a virus called HPV (human pappillomavirus)

Screening Guideline:

  • Pelvic exam every year
  • Pap test every 1 -3 years as recommended by your health care provider.

Who needs a Pap test?

  • Women age 18 and older (according to the American Cancer Society)
  • Women younger than 18 if they are or have been sexually active
  • Women who have gone through menopause may still need to get a Pap test.
